WIRED CONGRADULATIONS!
The November 2105 edition of Wired Magazine was a break-through edition. WRED LISTENED to ME! Not only did Wired feature the amazon woman Serena Williams on the cover but she was a guest editor. I feel that I would have been the obviously choice but Serena got the job. I am just a lowly blogger.
Also included in this edition was a section where men and women discussed their views of sexual harassment in the workplace
And you might ask, But Kay? Are you delusional to think that Wired Magazine would listen to a lowly blogger like you?
Yes, I believe it's true. Here's my breakdown of the things that I have been bitching about that
Wired responded to;
1. Wired added a woman on the cover
2. Wired included ads targeting women
3. Wired included ads that showed men and women together
4. Wired included men and woman having an actual dialogue
5. Wired talked about kitchen stuff that both men and women or women and women or men and men
like.
6. Wired took away the creepy glow around their featured women.
I just have one small observation for Wired however:
There was a bit of overkill. You have to give your base audience what they have become to expect over the years. I assume your base is made up mostly of techie white males under thirty.
If that is the case it's not a good idea to change their world so dramatically. You will want to ease'em into it. You don't want to risk loosing such a loyal customer base. I understand that Serena brought a lot of those advertisers over to your magazine but women make up the mini minority so they will difficult to keep. The good thing is that you know who to talk to get that advertising back!
In the end however, I believe you are amazing to explore and change. (I was a little hurt that you didn't ask me to be the guest editor but my advertising dollar is not worth much).
HOWEVER. I think the least you could do is give me a free subscription.
ALSO: I still believe that a computer is running this thing. So...thank you for listening "Computer".
